Media should
be well equipped in discharge of duties – Deputy Minister
Akosombo (ER), May 14, GNA – Mr. James Agyenim Boateng,
Deputy Minister of Information, has called for the provision
of adequate resources for journalists to enhance their
efficiency and effectiveness in the performance of their
duties.
This, he said, could be achieved through the acquisition of
appropriate knowledge and skills and the provision of the
necessary tools that would facilitate the creation of an
informed, knowledgeable and united society.
Speaking at a media dialogue on Thursday at Akosombo in
Eastern Region, he noted that the Ministry of Information
had decided to come out with programmes which would promote
national unity and also consolidate media pluralism.
“This is the reason why we have assembled here to discuss,
brainstorm and fashion out strategies that will help all
stakeholders involved in the packaging and dissemination of
information for the consumption of the public,” he added.
He urged all Ghanaians and civil society organizations to
come on board and contribute their quota to all activities
that would enhance the socio-economic transformation of the
country.
Mr Dominic Sampong, Acting Director of the Ministry of
Information, appealed to the media to let national unity and
development override all other considerations in all their
endeavours and reporting.
He urged all the participants who were from both the state
and private media to fully participate in the dialogue in
order to come out with strategies which would promote better
collaboration between them and the Ministry and also meet
other objectives of the dialogue.
The two-day seminar, which is under the theme: “The State
and the Media as Developing Partners in the Attainment of
the Millennium Development Goals in Ghana” is organized by
the Ministry of Information with sponsorship from the United
Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
