Two remanded for robbery
Accra, May 4, Ghanadot/GNA
- Two persons who robbed a driver of his taxi cab, took all his
belongings and money and stripped him naked, were on Monday put
before a Circuit Court in Accra charged with conspiracy and
robbery.
Mazu Ali, an aluminium fabricator and Stephen Nyadzi, a mason,
pleaded not guilty.
The court, presided over by Mr Iddrisu Mahamadu remanded them
into prison custody to reappear on May 18.
Chief Inspector R.K. Dogbeti, the prosecutor, said on January 18
at about 11:30 pm, Ali, 25, and Nyadzi, 30, stopped the taxi cab
being driven by Mr Richard Ansah on the Akweteman Road and asked
him to take them to Kingsby at Achimota in Accra.
On their way, the prosecution said, Ali asked Mr Ansah, who is
also a library assistant, to stop so that he could alight from
the car.
As soon as the car stopped, Nyadzi held Mr Ansah’s neck and
pointed a knife at him. Ali removed his trousers and they
succeeded in collecting his GH˘ 50, a Sony Erickson mobile phone
valued at GH˘ 160 cedis and bunch of keys.
The prosecution said the accused bolted with Mr Ansah’s car with
registration GE 191 W.
Some time later Mr Ansah spotted the two accused persons and
raised the alarm.
Nyadzi was arrested but Ali escaped. When Nyadzi was searched,
the complainant’s identity card and cash of GH˘ 70 was found on
him.
The prosecution said although the car was retrieved, the car
stereo and battery had been removed.
On April 17, Ali, who was arrested for stealing a mobile phone,
was identified as Nyadzi’s accomplice.
