Police arrest two
people over counterfeit notes
Suhum, March 31, Ghanadot/GNA – The Suhum police
have arrested two people for allegedly possessing counterfeit
Ghana cedi notes.
A police source told Ghana News Agency that Ibrahim Wahab 30, a
barber, was arrested on March 22 at Anum Apapam after purchasing
Tigo credit cards with fake GH¢10 notes from two dealers.
It said Wahab purchased two Ghana cedis worth of credit card
with a fake GH¢10 and was given eight Ghana cedis change, after
that he went to another dealer with another fake GH¢10 but the
dealer detected that it was fake and raised the alarm and Wahab
was arrested.
The source said during a search on Wahab GH¢100 in GH¢10
denominations were found on him.
It said on March 14 at Amenase near Suhum, Anthony Kwabena
Yeboah, an Accra based trader and two others now on the run
hired a taxi from Suhum to Amanase.
He said on arrival, Yeboah gave a GH¢10 note to the driver for
the two Ghana cedis fare, but the driver detected that it was
fake and challenged him.
The source said the two other people took to their heels but the
driver held Yeboah and raised the alarm and was sent to Suhum
police station.
It advised traders to look for the security features on the
currency and expose counterfeit notes.
