Ga Mantse comments on Ga land issues

Accra, March 25, Ghanadot/GNA – The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Tawiah III, on Wednesday condemned the actions of individuals and groups purporting to be speaking for the Ga people on the land issue.

He told a cross section of the media that while the Council share the feelings of Ga people being alienated from their land, it would however not condone the activities of individuals and groups agitating for the release of Ga lands.

King Tackie Tawiah said, on such issues, the Ga Traditional Council held the supreme right to speak on behalf of the people and it was distressing that the land issue was taking political colouration.

King Tackie Tawiah said since all the processes used in giving land to the colonial government were done through law, the Council had been in discussion with government since 1992 to see how best to resolve the issue.

He said this dialogue had continued over the years and had not degenerated into difficulty.

He said the Council had full confidence in the new government to release land to the Ga people after a thorough review of decisions of past governments.
