Samia commends President Mill

Accra, Feb. 27, Ghanadot/GNA – Madam Samia Nkrumah, CPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro, on Friday commended President Mill for his intention to establish a founder’s day in recognition of the selfless services of Ghana’s first President.

She said the decision to honour the memory of the late President by an appropriate legislation for a public holiday should be tied in with various activities to make it eventful.

The MP was contributing to the debate on President Mills’ sessional address to Parliament.

Ms. Cecilia Dapaah, NPP MP for Bantama, however said the idea of a Founder’s Day, though laudable, should not be restricted to Kwame Nkrumah but other leading figures who played a role in the country’s independence, should also be counted among the founding fathers.

She also touched on President Mills’ health agenda for the nation and said focus should be placed on the water sector to cut down on the incidence of guinea worm cases and other water related diseases.

Mr Emmanuel Bandua, NDC MP for Biakoye, said agricultural production should be boosted to support the economy to deal with the global economic downturn, which was likely to affect Ghana very soon.

He said donors and development partners were now more likely to focus attention on their ailing economies instead of directing resources to Ghana and therefore the country needed to devise a means of sustaining itself.

Mr James Avedzi, NDC MP for Ketu North, said the proposal of the NDC government to improve the road sector and construct and rehabilitate roads along the eastern corridor to link the north to the south, was going to bring development to the north because the eastern route was the shortest link between the north and the south.

Mr. Ernest Debrah, NPP MP for Tano North, commended the President for saying that, the nation should learn to add up to what was working and depart from the practice of undoing the valuable contributions of previous governments.

He said what was left was for the President to match deeds with words.
