IPPA Ranks Top-25 Go-To Think Tank in Sub-Saharan Africa

January 25th, 2011(Lagos, Nigeria): The Initiative for Public Policy
Analysis (IPPA), the 2005 award-winning organization, ranks among Top-25
Go-To think tank in Sub Saharan Africa, according to the 2010 Global Go-To
think tank ranking report released on January 18, 2011 at the United
Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Think Tank ranking is based on a worldwide survey of 1,500 scholars,
journalists, policy makers and peers from almost 120 countries conducted
by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program of the University of
Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, United States.

The 2010 rankings are distilled from a universe of 5,491 nominated policy
organizations from every part of the world. The report ranks the
Initiative for Public Policy Analysis (IPPA) among Top-25 Go-To think-tank
in Sub-Saharan Africa. This ranking marks the second time that IPPA would
be ranked among Top-25 Go-To think tank in Sub-Saharan Africa. The first
was in 2008.

“This ranking is a testimony that the Initiative for Public Policy
Analysis (IPPA) is making the desired impacts and changing the climate of
opinions in Nigeria. It also helps in bridging the gap between knowledge
and policy, confirms the organization as a topmost research center,
endorses the effectiveness of its programs, media outreaches and of course
a pat on our team’s back to do more.” says Thompson Ayodele, executive
director of the Initiative for Public Policy Analysis.

Olusegun Sotola, a Research Fellow with the IPPA, also welcome this
ranking. “ This ranking is a positive indicator that what we do at IPPA is
making the right impact and it is equally a motivation to do more. We
savour the joys of this ranking as well as recognize the challenges it
places. Our donors can count on IPPA as a high-quality, policy-oriented
research and capacity building institution.”

The 2010 Global Go-To Think Tank Ranking is compiled by the Think Tanks
and Civil Societies Program at the International Relations Program,
University of Pennsylvania. Started in 2006, these annual reports seek to
evaluate performance and to identify leading think tanks throughout the
world. In the 2010 survey, 6,480 think tanks were invited to participate;
out of those, 5,491 think tanks were nominated and then ranked in 29
categories.

The primary objective of the rankings is to recognize some of the leading
public policy think tanks in the world and highlight the important
contributions these organizations are making to governments and civil
societies around the world.
