Guinea worm reduces from 180,000 to 220
By Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh, Ghanadot

Accra, Aug 14, Ghanadot - The number of Guinea worm cases in Ghana has been drastically reduced from 180,000 to 220 as at June this year. This follows various interventions initiated by the Ministry of Health with Support from donor partners.

The Director of Public Health, Dr. Joseph Amankwaa revealed to some journalists in Accra that surveillance in endemic areas has been stepped up while monitoring has been intensified to prevent future outbreaks.

The National Co-ordinator of the Guinea Worm Eradication Programme, Dr. Andrew Seidu Korkor said the people in the endemic communities have fully accepted the campaign messages on wiping out the menace. He called on the people to also constantly change their environmental behaviours.
