Apathy of Ghanaians hinders good sanitation practices - expert

Accra, March 28 Ghanadot/GNA – The apathy of Ghanaians towards ensuring environmental cleanliness is hindering the aim of keeping the nation clean, Mr. Amfo-Otu, a zonal head of waste managers Zoomlion said on Saturday.

He said there was a general notion among residents that it was the duty of Government to clean the environment, so many people did not show any remorse for littering around.

Mr Amfo-Otu was briefing the media after a clean-up exercise organized by the government taskforce in the Ga East, West and Adenta Municipality, in collaboration with Zoomlion, Ghana.

During the exercise, residents looked unconcerned while the workers of Zoomlion cleared gutters and swept walkways and removed heaps of refuse.

“If people do not cultivate the habit of cleaning their environs and participate in clean up exercises in the neighbourhoods, all the resources put in by Zoomlion will not achieve it purpose,” he said.
