The African Union Square
Accra, March 24, Ghanadot - The
African Union Square and its garden in Accra,
honoring the various founding fathers has been
renovated by the government of Ghana. At
the square
are pictures of the various founding fathers of
the OAU and the coat of arms of their countries.
The OAU, now AU, at its recent gathering of
Heads of State and Government, at its
headquarters in Addis Ababa on 29th
January, 2007, unanimously elected the President
of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John
Agyekum Kufuor, to the chair of the Union for
this year, which act also coincided with the
Jubilee celebration in Ghana.
This is the second time that a Ghanaian leader
has been so honoured. Dr.Kwame Nkrumah, the
first President, chaired the deliberations of
the then continental entity, the Organisation of
African Unity (OAU), at its 3rd
summit which took place here in Accra in 1965.
Kweku Asare takes us on a tour of the garden
showing us the pictures.
