Zebilla (U/E), Sept 30, Ghanadot/GNA – The Bawku
West District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Desmond
Bugbilla, has sacrificed the construction of the
DCE’s residence for the construction of a
primary school for two communities in the
district.
Mr Bugbilla, who is living in a facility
acquired by the assembly, told the Ghana News
Agency that since the assembly was carved from
the Bawku District about two decades ago it has
not been able to construct a residential
facility for its DCEs.
This came up at the second ordinary session of
the assembly at Zebilla.
He said a resolution was therefore passed by
members of the assembly for the construction of
the facility at one of its sittings “but I had
to sacrifice for two sister communities, Gbere
and Taricom, which have lack a school.
In view of the DCE’s request, the assembly is
conducting feasibility studies on the schools
project for the work to start as soon as
possible.
The assembly resolved to uphold the peace and
ensure that politicians eschew intolerable and
provocative language before, during and after
the 2008 general election December.
The Assemblyman for the Soogo electoral area,
Mr. Moses Aduk-Pam, said there was the need for
members to educate the electorate in their areas
to appreciate the need to tolerate one another
and avoid personal attacks.
“Elections will come to pass, we as a people and
the assembly will continue to exist. Let us
consider the volatile situation of our
neighbours and put our hands on deck to build a
peaceful and conducive environment for all,” he
said.
The Presiding Member (PM) of the assembly, Very
Reverend Dr. Jacob Ayeebo, said the district was
succeeding in its development efforts in view of
the fact that members continue to relentlessly
make input during deliberations.
He noted that the future successes of the
assembly greatly depended on the drive,
commitment and success of the private sector and
appealed to members to help create a positive
environment and stimulate a business climate in
which the private sector could generate
sustainable wealth and employment opportunities
for the people in the district.
