John Mahama not aware of selection as running mate

Accra, Feb. 27 Ghanadot/GNA - Mr John Dramani Mahama, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Bole-Bamboi, on Wednesday said he was not aware of his endorsement as running mate of Professor John Evans Atta Mills for Election 2008.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra from London, Mr Mahama said he was not in the country and was not aware that the Party's Leadership had endorsed him as the running mate of Prof. Mills.

Mr Mahama said a local radio station had earlier called him on the same issue and expressed surprise that such news was in the public domain when he himself was not aware of it.

He prayed that all the speculations about his nomination as running mate should cease until Prof Mills, who had the prerogative to choose his own running mate, exercised that right at the appropriate time.

The February 27, 2008 edition of "The Statesman" newspaper reported on its front page that the Leadership of NDC had endorsed Mr Mahama as the running mate of Prof Mills.

Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, General Secretary of NDC, denied that the Party had given any such endorsement.
