Ghana explained
Accra, Feb 28, Ghanadot/GNA – Ghana may
host the next edition of the African Women Championship (AWC)
in 2010.
Osei Bonsu Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and
Sports believes the time was ripe for Ghana to host the
competition that pieces together the continents best eight.
“With all the facilities at our disposal, I do not see why
we cannot host the rest of Africa for the first time in the
competition’s history.”
Mr Amoah told GNA Sports “I think it is high time we hosted
the AWC.
The Deputy Minister said the dream would however be subject
to governmental approval.
“First, we will have to send a proposal to government to
seek approval to bid for the right to host the competition.”
Mr Amoah said his outfit ranks the subject high on its
agenda to utilize the newly developed facilities as well as
also developing sports generally in the country.
He said Ghana has the pedigree in organizing such
competitions and bringing it home would further strengthen
the feat.
The Black Queens are still chasing their first gold at the
competition with Nigeria and South Africa remaining the only
hosts.
Equatorial Guinea would host the sixth edition from November
15 - 29 to become only the third country to have hosted the
12-year-old championship.
