Committee for the silver jubilee celebration of Upper West
Region inaugurated
Wa, Feb. 28, Ghanadot/GNA - A 13-member
committee has been inaugurated to plan the silver jubilee
celebration of the Upper West Region.
The committee which has Mr. George Hikah Benson, Upper West
Regional Minister as its chairman would determine a suitable
date for the celebration, identify various activities to be
undertaken towards the anniversary.
Inaugurating the committee, Mr Benson said so far the region
has existed for 25 years in a relatively peaceful manner,
which has engendered some reasonable level of development.
"Quite apart from the well known belief that 25 years in the
life of any creation is important and worthy of celebration,
we should also celebrate this event so as to inspire
confidence in our people, encouraging them as it were to
take pride in their young, yet great region," he said.
"That aside, we should also use this occasion for consensus
building in the development agenda of the region to serve as
a guide for policymakers, donor agencies, non-governmental
organisations and development partners in their stride to
support the region", he added.
Mr. Benson said the anniversary should use to offer an
opportunity to foster unity and understanding amongst the
people as well as market the region to the rest of the world
to attract investors to exploit the potentials of the
region.
He tasked the committee to promote unison without anyone or
group being left out and called on the entire citizenry of
the region, friends and partners of the region to join in
the celebration.
