Obuasi Municipal maintains top position in 2007 BECE results
Kumasi, Feb. 5, Ghanadot/GNA- The Obuasi
Municipal Education Directorate maintained its first
position in the 2007 Basic Education Certificate Examination
(BECE) national grade ratings for four consecutive years
with 99.3 percent.
Amansie Central, one of the newly created districts in the
Ashanti Region was third with 86.72 percent while Kumasi
metropolitan education came fifth with 81.69 percent.
A circular letter released by the Ghana Educational Service
(GES) to all the regional education offices on Monday,
indicated that, five districts in the Ashanti region,
including Amansie West and Atwima Nwabiagya, which placed
seventh and tenth with 80.37 percent and 78.85 percent
respectively were among the best ten out of 138 districts
education directorates in the country.
The analysis showed that, 74 districts attained the rate of
admission passes while 13 districts had below 40 percent
qualifying admission rate. The 13 districts were made up of
five from the Northern region, three from Eastern region,
two from Central region and one each Upper East, Western and
Brong Ahafo regions.
Ga East district in the Greater Accra region moved from the
third position in 2006 to the second position with 86.72
percent and Jaman North district in the Brong Ahafo region,
also a newly created district came forth with 86.70 percent.
The letter showed that, the ten regional capitals with much
more improved facilities had Kumasi Metropolitan emerging
first followed by Sunyani, which placed eight, Accra
Metropolitan, eleventh and New Juaben Municipals 16th.
Wa Central was 22nd, Shama Ahanta 35th, Cape Coast 38th,
Bolgatanga 69th and Tamale 91st.
The analysis indicated that, Nanumba South district,
Bunkpurugu Yunyoo and Savelelugu Nanton districts all in the
Northern region were the last districts and occupied the
positions of 138, 137 and 136 respectively.
