Transport operators urged to ensure accident-free yuletide

Accra, Dec. 24, Ghanadot/GNA - The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of Ghana Trades Union Congress (GTUC), on Monday urged transport owners to ensure a peaceful and accident-free Christmas.

The group cautioned transport owners to maintain their vehicles, guarantee that their drivers operated with care and avoided taking alcohol to ensure that passengers were safely transported to their destinations during the Yuletide.

A statement signed by Mr. Alando Sidik, General Secretary of Union expressed the hope that transport owners would live up to the task to make this year’s celebrations absolutely accident-free.

It said “We have to admit that the journey had not been very smooth. There were few lapses in our performances resulting in some incidents involving some of our members and we take this opportunity to apologise for such unpleasant incidents”.

The statement urged transport owners to improve upon their performance and strive higher.

It said “Through thick and thin GPRTU has been able to survive as a union and sailed through the year 2008 successfully and we wish Ghanaians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year”.
