AFAG to go on nationwide demonstration
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, June 11, Ghanadot - The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), political pressure group, has issued a two week ultimatum to government to drastically reduce the prices of fuel and increase workers’ salaries or it will avail itself “to all constitutional remedies including nationwide mass protest”.

In a Press Statement issued by the group, AFAG stated its opposition to the recent 30% increase in fuel prices, saying “it increases the hardships on the Ghanaian as there is no commensurate increase in salaries of workers”

The group therefore urged the President to consider the plight of Ghanaians and make the “I care for you” slogan he adopted during the 2008 electioneering campaign a reality.

The opposition pressure group also used the opportunity to compare the current prices of certain goods on the market as against that of January when the NDC assumed power to buttress their claim that the Mills led administration has not done a good job on the Ghanaian economy.

According to the group, government on the recommendation of the International Monitory Fund (IMF) wanted to scrap subsidies on utilities such as water, and electricity, thereby increasing their prices.

AFAG claimed is dependably informed that, government, on the advice of the IMF is intending to increase the price of utilities by taking off subsidies of water, and electricity

But the Deputy Minister of Information, Mr. Agyenim Boateng was astonished at the information and challenged AFAG to come out with its source of the said information, adding “Government will not be sidetracked by such baseless arguments”.
