Police rewards informants with GHC 4,000
By Awudu Salami Sule

The Ashanti Regional Police Command is giving GHC 4,000 as a reward to informants who provided the police with some vital information and that has been useful to the police in their fight against crime.

The command is also offering an additional GHC 2,000 to the joint police–military night patrol team for its efforts in combating and prevention crime in the Ashanti Region.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Patrick Timbilla told the media that the reward is in fulfillment of a promise made by the Inspector General of Police to adequately reward informants.

He commended the public for their co-oporation and support in providing information to the police. DCOP Timbilla also commended personnel for their selfless contribution to the cause of promoting peace and security.

Armed robbers in the Ashanti Region has over the past two weeks had it tough with the police.

Eight armed robbers were killed a fortnight ago in a gun battle with the police on the Kumasi-Anwiankwanta-Bekwai road after the robbers mounted road blocks to rob travelers on that road.

Less than a week later, another robber, Awudu Karim, identified by the police as the most wanted criminal in the region, was also gunned down after engaging the police in a shootout.

According to DCOP Timbilla, the successes chalked by the command in recent times in combating crime especially armed robbery in the Ashanti Region, cannot be over-emphasized without the public especially the press.

He has therefore call on the general public to continue to give vital information to the police and which would help them to combat crime in the country.

The unidentified informants to received the cash reward have had the opportunity to meet the Inspector General of Police (IGP) where he showed his appreciation for their patriotism.
