Kwahu East Assembly members reject nominee DCE
BY Abdul Salam Sule, Ghanadot

Accra , April 21, Ghanadot - Assembly members at the Kwahu East District in the Abetifi constituency of the Eastern Region have this afternoon rejected the President nominee for the District Chief Executive in the area, Mr Samuel Asamoah.

Out of the 26 assembly members who cast their votes, Mr Asamoah polled 14 which is not up to the requirement of securing over 50% of the votes.

But the rejection of Mr Asamoah as the DCE for Kwahu East has not come without any confrontation. Information available to Ghanadot indicated that, supporters of NDC and NPP after the election engaged in a fierce fight and it was the presence of the police that prevented further bloodshed.

According to the supporters of NDC, majority of the assembly members at the Abetifi constituency were supporters of the opposition NPP hence their refusal to approve the president nominee.

Others have also blamed the Abetifi constituency chairman of NDC, Mr Asante Jumah and the MP for the area for working against the President nominee. They argued that, the chairman of the party had since the appointment of Mr Asamoah showed dislike for him, hence his decision to partner with the MP of the area, who belonged to the opposition NPP to work against him.

At the Abetifi community centre where the voting took place, both the chairman of the party and MP were nearly lynched by the angry mob but the police arrived on time to give them security.

Later in an interview with Ghanadot, Hon Peter Wiafe Peprah, the MP for the area and the party chairman denied working against the President nominee.

"Irrespective of the party I belong, I believe in development and there is no way I will work against my DCE", the MP said.

Meanwhile, as the constitution demands, the assembly members at the Kwahu East District have 10 days, after the first election, to go back to the polls to either approve or disapprove the nomination of Mr Samuel Asamoah.
