CHRAJ puts on hold M&J scandal investigations
By Awudu Salami Sule, Ghanadot
Accra, Feb 8, Ghanadot - The Commissioner for Commission for
Human and Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mr
Emile Short has indicated that his outfit has for now put
on hold the investigations it is carrying out in the Maybe
and Johnson scandal which rocked the country in the latter
part of last year.
The scandal mentioned some top government officials as
victims and that caused them their jobs. The President, Prof
Mills therefore ordered CHRAJ to investigate the scandal
thoroughly and come out with its findings.
But Mr Emile Short said the investigations could not
continue for now. According to him, the Serious Fraud Office
(SFO) in the United Kingdom has failed to support the
commission in Ghana with the neccessary information and that
has make their work difficult.
"We intended to finish our investigations and come out with
our findings by the end of February but we got very little
suport from the SFO in UK", he revealed.
The CHRAJ commissioner has however said, it is in serious
talks with the Attorney General over the issue and hoped
they would reach a decision on the best way to make the SFO
in the UK cooperate.
