Parliament set to vet nominee ministers tomorrow

Accra, Feb 6, Ghanadot - The Appointment Committee of Parliament will on Friday start vetting the various Ministers who were recently nominated by the President, Prof Mills, to occupy Ministerial positions in his administration.

Five of the president's nominees will tomorrow be confronted by critical issues concerning competence and morality in governance and their veracity.

With allegations being leveled against some of them publicly, the Ministers-designate will have to prove their innocence before the Appointment Committee of Parliament when it begins vetting at the Speaker's Conference Room tomorrow.

The vetting process is however expected to end on Friday February 13, 2009, with the committee vetting five nominee per day.

As the Appointment Committee starts vetting tomorrow, those to appear are the Minister of Education designate, Mr Alex Tetteh -Enyo, Mr Cletus Avorka, Minister of Interior designate, Mr Joseph Yieleh Chireh, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Mrs Akua Sena Dansua, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and Mrs Juliana Azumah-Mensah, Ministry of Tourism.

On Saturday, February 7, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni for Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mr Joe Gidisu, Ministry of Roads and High Ways, Dr Oteng Adjei, Ministry of Energy, Ms Sherry Ayitey, Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology and Alhaji Collins Dauda, Ministry of Land and Natural Resources will go through the vetting process.

On Monday February 9, those to go through the vetting process are, Ms Hannah Tetteh, Trade and Industry, Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, Ministry of Finance, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Ministry of Communication and Mr Mike Hammah, Ministry of Transport.

Those who will make appearance before the committee on Tuesday February 10 2009 are Lt Gen J.H. Smith (retd), Ministry of Defence, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, Ms Amma Benyiwa-Doe, Central Region, Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye Maafo, Brong Ahafo Region, Mr Kofi Opoku Manu, Ashanti Region, while Mr Mahmood Khalid, Upper West, Nii Armah Ashittey, Greater Accra Region, Mrs Zita Okai Kwei, Information Ministry, Mrs Halutide Dabie Alhassan, the Presidency and Dr George Yankey, Health will appear on the next day.

On Thursday February 12, those to appear before the committee are Mr Stephen Kwao Amoanor, Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare, Mr Moses Asaga, Ministry of Water Resources Works and Housing, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr Alexander Asum Ahensah, Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture and Mr Mark Woyongo, Upper East Region.

The final day of the vetting exercise will see the following nominees, Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Mr Azong Alhassan, the Presidency, Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Region, Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Region and Mr S.S. Nanyian Northern Region.

The Appointment Ciommitee after the vetting exercise will recommend to Parliament for approval or otherwise of persons nominated by the President for appointment as Ministers of State.
