Chief Justice calls on churches to remodel their programmes
By Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh, Ghanadot

Accra, Nov 8, Ghanadot - The Chief Justice of Ghana, Her Ladyship Justice Georgina Wood has vehemently called on churches in the country as a matter of urgency to remodel their programmes to give its members enough time to work to contribute to the socio-economic development of Ghana.

She observed that the current practice where most churches designed their activities/programmes to cover the working days is not the best.

Her Ladyship Georgina Wood made the call in a speech read for her by the Director of Communications at the Ghana Judiciary Service, Madam Grace Tagoe at the launch of the 25th anniversary of the Adenta Charity Assembly of the Assemblies of God Church in Accra, over the weekend.

According to her, “I find it strange when I see churches holding meetings, prayer camps and other church activities on working days”.

This practice is breeding laziness among the Christians in the country, stressing that “Let us work hard for this beautiful country of ours to be like the developed countries, where majority of us seeking visas to go”.

The Chief Justice was quick to appeal to Ghanaians to change their attitudes toward work and admonished those workers who use productive working hours to engage in gossips, sticking of lotto and other anti-social behaviours to desist from that.

Touching on the spiritual activities of churches in Ghana, Her Ladyship Georgina Wood has this to say “The church today finds itself in a challenging times couple with false miracles and false prophecies”.

Because of these prophecies and the so-called miracles, most Christians in Ghana, especially the youth are constantly worrying pastors to prophecy for them to enable them know what God has for them. But this leads to laziness and unorthodox means of becoming rich, she added.

She therefore called on Christians, especially church leaders to rise up against the power of darkness which is starring that church, saying “Ghana is at crossroad”.

Her Ladyship Georgina Wood lamented that “Our Father in heaven is weeping over our bad deeds and called for a change.

In her own words, “With one accord, let us bring the church back to righteousness. The church in Ghana is going backward, let us bring it back. Please our pastors help us. For heaven sake do not deceive the flock.

The Senior Pastor of the Adenta Charity Assembly, Reverend Michael Emmanuel Boahen thanked the Almighty God for His Faithfulness and Sufficiency for all these 25 years in ministry.

He paid glowing tributes to all the past deacons and committee members who helped in diverse ways in the development and growth of the church.

In a brief history of the church, Reverend Joseph Baisie recounted that the late General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, Rev. W. W. Dontoh established the church in July, 1984. This was borne out of necessity under the pastoral care of the then Senior pastor of the Madina Central Assemblies of God Church, the late Dontoh.

He disclosed that the church would grow its Charity Credit Union to become a Savings and Loans Company and eventually to a Community Bank.

Rev. Boahen further added that the church would set up the W. W. Dontoh Charity Educational Fund in December this year as an anniversary commemoration to honour the vision of the late General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana.

While, the church would also complete the on-going church auditorium project in the next three years time, he revealed.
On social responsibility, Rev. Boahen indicated that as part of the church’s social responsibility, the church has supported the Frafraha home, Agape Orphans home and built a footbridge for the Adenta community.
