Nana Akufo-Addo sends congratulatory message to Ghanaians on Nkrumah's birthday
By Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh, Ghanadot

The 2008 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has sent a birthday message in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Nana Akufo-Addo sees the occasion as appropriate for Ghanaians, in particular, and Africans, in general, to join hands to honour "one of Africa’s most important and celebrated personalities, who contributed significantly in shaping the direction and destiny of the continent and its people in the twentieth century."

He says, "This centenary celebration should help us revive our can-do spirit as a people with a manifest destiny for greatness. Let us use this period to renew our commitment to the need for the rapid unification of the continent as the most effective means of enhancing the well being of the African and her role in the world".

Nana Akufo-Addo adds, "But, we should also use this opportunity for a sober reflection on our painful past for the purposes of strengthening our faith in the principles of development in freedom, individual liberty, individual prosperity, the rule of law, and respect for human rights and the institutions of liberal democracy."

He ends his message with these words, "Let us use this event to honour the collective contribution of our forebears, including Kwame Nkrumah, to Ghana’s independence struggle and the inspiration that gave to our brothers and sisters in the rest of colonized Africa.

Ghanadot.
