In Nkrumah, there were no barriers but one Ghana - Mills
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, Sept 21, Ghanadot - The President of the Republic of Ghana, John Evans Atta Mills, in his nation’s address for Osagyfo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah centenary celebration, has described Ghana’s First President as a selfless and visionary leader who fought for the liberation of Ghana rather than promote ethnic barriers.

“In Dr. Nkrumah, there was no North, South, East or West, there was only one Ghana.”

President Mills noted that Dr. Nkrumah equipped the Ghanaian with a sense of self-worth, national pride and unity and promoted the Ghanaian identity far and beyond the shores of Africa.

Ghana’s independence struggle and the role Dr. Kwame Nkrumah played, according President Mills, cannot be overlooked but adored and celebrated immensely.

According to him, a nation which does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for, thus this is the time for the whole of Ghana to celebrate one man who brought unity and oneness in the African continent.

He said, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah despite all odds, projected Ghana to the world, as a true Black Star of Africa and emphasized “our independence, our ownership or resources and our capacity to manage our resources and take charge of our future and destiny.

“Also Kwame Nkrumah created the Ghanaian and African personality which resulted in the continuation of the messages in them.”

The President reiterated that that this day, 21st of September, 2009, should serve as a day Ghanaians begin to bring new life into Dr. Nkrumah’s vision of strong, and united Ghana.

“Let us grab this opportunity and rekindle our sense of national pride and self-worth, let us care for each other and by so doing we can care for mother Ghana.”

To the youth, President Mills said, “the future is yours. Take control of your destiny, knowing that thou shall profit nothing if you gain the whole world and loses your soul.”

There are kingmakers and they are not kings; why we celebrate Nkrumah

Review, Sept 20, Ghanadot - What we forget about Ghana we will remember in the visions of the “Big Six,” Nkrumah included; but what we forget about Africa, we will remember foremost in the work and vision of one man: Kwame Nkrumah. This makes Nkrumah an exceptional leader. ..
