Apam fishermen land bumper catch
Apam (C/R), Sept. 26, GNA — Fishermen, in and around Apam
and Munford, in the Central region, on Thursday and Friday,
made a bumper catch of tuna, salmon and herrings, forcing
the prices of fish down at the beach.
Opanyin Nana Akyin told the Ghana News Agency at the Apam
beach that, a large bucket of salmon, which was being sold
about GHC60 the previous weeks, is now being sold at GHC50.
He said a large create of herrings reduced from GHC65.00 to
between GHC20.00 and GHC50 on Friday, depending on the
sizes.
Most fishermen told the GNA that fish smokers have no place
to store their fish because all their ovens are stocked with
fish.
They have therefore appealed to the government “as a matter
of urgency, to establish a cold storage facility at Apam to
keep them in business”.
The fishermen have commended the government for making
pre-mix petrol available for them to do business.
